Shermantics

32 photographs co-created with Aleesa Cohene and Nina Arsenault, 1999.

Coinciding with the Art Gallery of Ontario’s 1999 retrospective of the work of American artist Cindy Sherman, Nemer and fellow artists Aleesa Cohene and Nina Arsenault produced a series of self-portraits inspired by her signature style.

The works referenced various periods in Sherman’s career, using her work as a template for examinations of contemporary characters, genders, and emotional impressions.

Shermantics was Nemer’s first gallery exhibition, which took place at the now-defunct Area Gallery, in Toronto, Canada. The photographs were produced with the technical and artistic assistance of artists Guntar Kravis and Orev Reena Katz.
